This was a new build for a client in Calterra. Their wishlist included a small fire pit area in the back and\u00a0weeds mowed down as they were currently a bylaw infraction.

<\/div>
We got to work coming up with a plan that would not only deal with the weeds and fire pit request, but ensure the end result was visual pleasing and low maintenance. We wanted to place stones for front beds, drainage for downspouts and create a dry creek bed. Our goal in creating a creek bed was two fold:
1. To divert the downspout water along back of the house so it did not corrupt the retaining wall they built.<\/div>
2. To address the dynamic load behind the wall due to constant water and soil shifting.<\/div>
3. To deal with the well and septic area in an aesthetically pleasing manner.<\/div>

Many acreage owners are aware of the unsightly septic tanks and fields that typically come with the territory. We took a unique approach. Instead of it standing out as an eyesore, we decided to hide it in plain site. We used design to draw your eye to a dry creek bed, not a septic tank.

Renaissance Landscapes was contracted to work with Graham Construction on a dry creek rehab for Lake Louise Inn.\u00a0<\/div>

Previous red mulch beds had been damaged during the winter construction of balconies. Our goal was to create something more visually pleasing while adhering to strict environmental and wildlife policies set forth by Parks Canada.<\/div>

PERMANENT SOLUTION TO AN ONGOING PROBLEM AT LAKE BONAVENTURA<\/h2><\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t

This an extension of a job we did 3 years ago. The client had invested in an elegantly lit pathway. For some reason, the grass kept dying off midway, likely due to a combination of cumulated runoff and not enough sun.
We solved the problem by laying angular stones in such a way that we didn\u2019t have sand running off into Lake if a storm hit. Because this backs into a lake we built it as a semi-permeable paver system, meaning the sub-grade is layers of 40mm and 20mm angular drain rock that compacts.
All the paver work on the pathway was fabric covered in Gator Base (a thin commercial product as a substitute for road crush) and then the stones.
So far it is proving to be a great, low-maintenance solution. The clients are budding with excitement and can enjoy their pathway again!<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In Calgary\u2019s luxurious Watermark community, we worked with a client to create something truly unique to go below his upper outdoor deck \u2013 his wishes were to avoid any \u201chardscaping\u201d and so we took a softer approach to our design. Our custom designed focused on maximizing space and delivering a sleek aesthetic on top of being highly functional and useable. We employed a purple colour scheme, using appropriate plant materials and planting Muscari, as well as Allium, and Ohio Buckeye. We installed custom lighting above the green, and chose the ideal stones to contour the property effectively, and with the most aesthetic value.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

14TH STREET CUSTOM FLOOD MITIGATION DESIGN<\/h2><\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Our team recently completed work on a project along 14th street in central Calgary. The property owner had been dealing with annual flooding, and was continually spending money to remediate damage caused by this unfortunate circumstance. Our custom solution incorporated the science of landscaping as well as the aesthetics to not only improve the property, but prevent this issue from occuring again.<\/p>

The lower unit of the building was below-grade, and had suffered the most from water intrusion. Our team created a permeable pathway with weeping tile, which diverts water away from the property, as well as installing a drain that would direct severe water flow past the the area entirely. In the Calgary-based community of Hawkwood, the Renaissance team broke ground on a custom backyard re-design, which included the installation of a personal putting green. We began by re-bedding the backyard, including mulch, and concrete curbing as well as the installation of an Alan-block retaining wall. We also tore down two former retaining walls in order to re-direct water flow away from sensitive areas of the landscape. BACKYARD MAKEOVER - \"STICKING WITH THE YARD THAT HAD WATER ISSUES\"<\/h2><\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

This home had water accumulating against the foundation unbeknownst to the homeowner. We were initially consulted on the project, which was to lift, add road crush, and replace the patio, as it had sunken up against the home. After lifting the patio, we noticed a slight damp spot where the back door is located. This area had sunken in after only a few years of living in the home.<\/p>

Commencing with a basic tamping down of the existing area, our machine slowly sank down as though it were in quick sand. The neighbours\u2019 yards on either side of this house\u2019s sloped towards them, and as an area with a lot of water run off from the street, it created somewhat of an anomaly. We needed to excavate to the foundation to better assess the extent of the issue.<\/p>

We came up with a plan to vacate the water from the premises. The home owner was obviously disappointed from having to do all this work, however, realized we could not ignore the issue, nor could we replace the patio as it was and simply walk away.<\/p>

We stuck with the yard that had water issues, and this is how we solved the problem:<\/strong><\/p>

\u2013 Excavated down to the foundation at the back of the home
\u2013 Then excavated 100\u2032 out from there
\u2013 From excavation to end of line the slope went from around 4\u2019-6\u2033 to 7\u2019 in depth.
\u2013 Placed down landscape fabric in trench
\u2013 Layered washed drainage rock for 100\u2032
\u2013 Layered 100\u2032 socked perforated weeping tile
\u2013 Laid down another layer of washed drainage rock for 100\u2019
\u2013 Then folded the landscape fabric over as a precaution
\u2013 Filled in the trench
\u2013 Replaced all saturated road crush with fresh 3\/4\u2033 crush
\u2013 Tamped down the patio area, now enlarged and more user-friendly
\u2013 Placed landscape fabric down
\u2013 Added layer of sand
\u2013 Start placing the bricks
\u2013 Build slight retaining wall
\u2013 Add soil\/compost in new garden areas
\u2013 Plant new trees and shrubs
